I am very excited to share with you that I will be working with Backpacks for the Homeless this year to help fill backpacks and raise awareness for those in need locally in Ottawa. I heard about the initiative this past Christmas and was intrigued, so I reached out to the founder Ron Pitre to learn more about the project and to see how I could be of assistance.
How does it work?
If you decide you would like to fill a backpack an empty one will be provided to you from one of the pick up locations (TBA) across the city along with a list of needed essentials such as mitts, hats, socks, toiletries and snacks/treats. Then you go shopping to purchase the needed items, fill up the backpack, maybe include a personal note, then drop the filled bag off at one of the drop off locations. The campaign will launch late fall and the backpacks will be distributed on Christmas Eve to The Sheppard’s of Good Hope, The Mission and other drop-in centers around Ottawa.
Its that simple.
If you are interested in learning more or would like to fill a backpack you can contact myself or Backpacks for the Homeless directly.
For 2017 I have personally committed to filling one backpack for every home I help buy or sell – with a goal of filling 22 backpacks. Additionally my office, Guardian Real Estate ,will be a drop off/pick up location when the campaign launches this fall providing a local spot for those in Manotick & surrounding areas who want to get involved and help fill a backpack.
I will be posting news & updates as to where I am in achieving my goal through out the year – if you are considering a move in 2017 and would like to help me reach (or surpass) my goal please contact me directly at anytime.
